VIKA Maryland, LLC is a leading Civil Engineering, Planning, Survey, and Landscape Architecture firm in the DC metro area. We are currently seeking an experienced Arborist/Landscape Architect to join our Germantown, Maryland team. Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following technical and practical abilities to effectively thrive in this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arboriculture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience
  • One or a combination of Landscape Architecture License, ISA Certification, Maryland Licensed Tree Expert, or International Society of Arborists Certification
  • Experience in producing natural resource inventories, forest stand delineations, forest conservation plans, and specimen tree variance justifications
  • Ability to identify and delineate extent of streams and wetlands
  • Knowledge in general environmental and ecological planting design
  • Ability to provide complete tree assessments and protection recommendations
  • Knowledge of plant material found in the Piedmont region
  • Specific experience within Montgomery County and Prince George’s County preferred
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office; Civil 3D experience preferred
  • Comfort with field work and construction sites

Responsibilities

This position will require carrying out the following assignments and roles within an interdisciplinary environment:

  • Working with VIKA and consultant team members from initial natural resource inventories through construction oversight of tree protection measures
  • Performing existing environmental conditions analyses, forest stand delineations, and tree assessments
  • Work with VIKA survey staff to locate environmental features, such as wetland and stream bank flags and significant and specimen trees
  • Create forest conservation and tree protection plans, details, and specifications
  • Create non-native, invasive species management plans and maintenance schedules
  • Create forest conservation bonding cost estimates and agreements
  • Work with landscape architects to create mitigation planting plans
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and the project team on workflow, schedules, and deliverables through entitlement
  • Engage with environmental planning staff to review and discuss plan comments and responses, negotiating code-compliant solutions in the project’s interest
